Rubba Bandz
From Bandz Wiki: The Encyclopedia of Silly Bandz And Other Shaped Silicone Rubber Band Bracelets
Rubba Bandz—called "Rubber Bands" on some packages— is a line of shaped bands produced by Panaria International, Inc. Panaria describes themselves on their official website: "since 1972, PANARIA has been serving the industry as an importer and distributor of the most innovative novelties, toys and gift items."
A news article identified Steve Martin of Confetti & Friends in Farmingdale, New York as a designer of Rubba Bandz.
Specialties
At the beginning, Rubba Bandz were much like the rest of the first wave of shaped bands—most packs were based on animals and basic objects. Since then, they have been highly inventive. Rubba Bandz was the first to release scented bands, "plain color" black and white bands, and has experimented with such creative concepts as the Guess Who Rubba Bandz pack
Pack Characteristics
Rubba Bandz come in packs of 12, including two each of six total designs. They are packaged in a cellophane wrapper with a paper display card, with perforation under the display card for easy opening.
Prices
Packs generally retail for about $4.
Availability
Rubba Bandz are one of the more widely available brands, but most of their distribution is still concentrated where the shaped band popularity is strongest (in the southern/midwestern US). They are available from many online retailers.
Other Notes
Rubba Bandz is clearly a highly adaptive brand, both creating new trends in the art form and improving on those that have already emerged. This bodes well for their future.
